I
am a terrific artist. I know because people keep telling me
I am. I have been a professional artist since 1983 when I finished
college, the name of which I won’t mention because that would
be boring. But, I guess I have been an artist since I could hold
a pencil.
Without my husband to support me, I would be working at a job that
pays. There is nothing glamorous about being a starving artist.
Multimedia Artist
That is I use a lot of different stuff to create art. Possessing
a true creative spirit, it is impossible for me to focus on one
medium. Some of which include: Watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel,
photography, colored pencils, ink, charcoal, pencil, potter’s
wheel, gourds, basketry, calligraphy and beads.
Awards
I didn’t think you wanted to read a list of awards that I
have won in cities from Reno to the Bay Area. So I won’t list
them.
I Take Commissions
If you like my paintings, baskets and gourds, but you have something
different in mind, give me a call. I got the request that is supposed
to be every artist’s nightmare, “Paint me a picture
to match my couch.” It came from my mother.
Art Teacher
Classes in Colfax.
Okay, I have a degree in education. So I teach classes in:
- painting
- drawing
- pottery
- basket weaving
- calligraphy
- bead knitting
Teaching art classes sort of helps pay the rent on my art studio.
But no kidding, I love to teach. It comes naturally to me.
I didn’t need to study education to figure that one out. I
can teach anyone to draw, given they have an interest and are willing
to practice.
What sells best?
Anything three-dimensional. The closer you can get an item of art
to performing a function, the more justified is the purchase. The
American public, I have read, is not comfortable spending money
on paintings. Paintings are generally considered an untouchable
luxury. Decorated gourds sell the best, or whatever has the lowest
price. If I tried to earn as much as minimum wage for time spent
creating my art, it would not sell. |
